Battle of Lewes

A FREE EVENT and celebration of Lewes incorporating the Battle of Lewes reenactment, medieval traders and historical displays and demonstrations
Once again the residents of Lewes will gather on the town’s cobbled streets to commemorate the Anniversary of the Battle of Lewes, one of the most decisive battles of the 13th Century.
An expert team of Historical Reenactors and Historians are once again creating this spectacle to unite the town with the clash of steel against maille and armour as the re-telling of the events of 14th May 1264 unfold in all it’s glory.
Spanning across 2 days – the event will feature reenactors from across the country, Europe and beyond with a full medieval camp with combat displays and activities at The Convent Field.
New for 2021 a trader’s row is growing with food, drink and medieval wares as well as medieval entertainment for all of the family.
The country’s only full contact battle reenactment through the streets of the town at various points on the High Street, from The Gallops to Lewes Castle, and Lewes Priory where we witness the final surrender of Henry III to Simon de Montfort.
Dust off your swords, clean the rust from your armour, dig out your best medieval costumes and join the clash in Lewes this May!
